Incorporated in 1833. Originally chartered in 1766 as Burton, to honor General Jonathan Burton of Wilton, in 1833, the town was incorporated and renamed Albany. Mount Chocorua, Mount Paugus and the southeastern corner of the White Mountain National Forest are within Albany's borders. Also located in Albany is the Albany Covered Bridge, a 120-foot span across the Swift River. Albany lies just south of Conway and is home to many beautiful streams, scenic vistas and wonderful hiking trails. In 1971, the White House Christmas tree was a spruce selected here in the White Mountain National Forest. Albany is the gateway to the Mt. Washington Valley.
