Incorporated in 1831. Formerly named the village of North Effingham, this town seceded from Effingham in 1831 and changed its name to Freedom in1832. Its eastern boundary is the Maine border and Freedom is well off the beaten path. Freedom’s local historical society maintains a charming museum and is also home to several children’s camps and family campgrounds. Also note many beautiful Freedom NH homes that are on the eastern shore of Ossipee Lake.
